The short answer to this question is no. All of our cameras ship loaded with the latest version Of the firmware so most times there is no reason to update your firmware. it is always good practice to contact support before loading any version of firmware to make sure that 1.) you need the firmware update in the first place, and 2.) that is the firmware is needed that you are loading the right version for the model and generation of your camera. if the wrong firmware update is loaded onto your camera (example: 20x- USB-G2 loaded on a 12X-USB-G2) it will cause the camera to brick (become completely non-functional). a camera that is bricked through improper firmware being loaded onto the camera is one way to void your warranty. so it is always a good idea to contact support before attempting a firmware update of ANY kind.
