We recommend using either the  SIIG active extension cables, over fiber optic wire with the Icron USB 3.0 Spectra or over CAT cable with the Icron USB 3-2-1. These have been tested with the cameras and they work very reliably.

The Siig is an active cable so it needs power injected into the cable, but only if you daisy chain 2 or more of these cables together.

The Iron Spectras use a USB connection with the camera and optical cable (not included) between the host and the device. The Icron Raven is the only true USB 3.0 extension over CAT cable (also not included) that we know work with HD video. When Icron was developing the Raven, we sent them our USB 3.0 model cameras to make sure that when the Raven launched that it would be compatible with our cameras.

While the Iron Spectra and Raven are reliable options for going long distances, the amount these units sell for is rather high, and with the Spectra when you factor in the cost of the optical cables, the price tags for these units can be staggering. This is why for most applications we suggest using the Siig cables.

The Siig cables are much more durable since they are copper and not fiber optic cable. The Siig cables are offered in lengths of 5,10,15 and 20-meter lengths. The Spectra and the Raven have the ability to run USB at distances of up to 100M.
